                     Her Excellency the Governor General in Council, on the recommendation of the Prime Minister, pursuant to section 18 of the National Defence Act, hereby appoints Lieutenant-General Richard J. Hillier of Ottawa, Ontario, to be the Chief of the Defence Staff, at the rank of General, and fixes his salary at the rate set out in the schedule hereto, which salary is within the range ($185,000 - $217,700), effective February 4, 2005.

                     Sur recommandation du premier ministre et en vertu de l’article 18 de la Loi sur la défense nationale, Son Excellence la Gouverneure générale en conseil nomme lieutenant-général Richard J. Hillier, d’Ottawa (Ontario), au poste de chef d’état-major de la défense, au rang de général, et fixe son traitement au taux spécifié à l’annexe ci-jointe, lequel traitement se situe dans l’échelle (185 000 $ - 217 700 $), à compter du 4 février 2005.
