Her Excellency the Governor General in Council, on the recommendation of the Prime Minister, under subsection 4‍(3) and section 5 of the Special Service Medal Regulations,

(a) determines as special service, within the meaning of those Regulations, service which meets the following conditions: 

(i) it is either 180 consecutive days or an aggregate of 270 days, 60 days of which are consecutive, of honourable service beginning on or after the day on which this Order comes into force, performed either in Canada or outside of Canada other than in a theatre of operations, for the specific purpose of remotely participating, on a full-time basis, in approved operations through either the personal use of weapons systems or the delivery of targeted effects, which use or delivery is enabled by technology and has a tangible effect, or the potential for such an effect, in the theatre of operations, and 

(ii) the service is not counted as service towards any other Canadian or foreign service medal; and 

(b) specifies that the Bar that is awarded with the Special Service Medal, representing the special service referred to in paragraph (a), is to bear the word “DISTANTIA”. 

Sur recommandation du premier ministre et en vertu du paragraphe 4‍(3) et de l’article 5 du Règlement sur la Médaille du service spécial, Son Excellence la Gouverneure générale en conseil :

a) désigne comme service spécial, au sens de ce règlement, le service qui répond aux conditions suivantes :

(i) il est un service honorable accompli, depuis la date d’entrée en vigueur du présent décret, au cours de cent quatre-vingts jours consécutifs ou d’un cumul de deux cent soixante-dix jours, dont soixante sont consécutifs, soit au Canada, soit à l’étranger à l’extérieur d’un théâtre d’opérations, dans le but précis de participer à distance, à temps plein, à des opérations approuvées requérant l’utilisation personnelle de systèmes d’armements ou la production d’effets ciblés, laquelle utilisation ou production est rendue possible par des moyens technologiques et a une incidence tangible dans le théâtre d’opérations ou est susceptible d’avoir une telle incidence,

(ii) il n’est pas pris en compte pour l’attribution d’une autre médaille de service canadienne ou étrangère;

b) précise que la barrette attribuée avec la Médaille du service spécial et représentant le service spécial visé à l’alinéa a) porte l’inscription « ‍DISTANTIA‍ ».
