Whereas the Minister of Foreign Affairs, with the concurrence of the Minister of Justice, pursuant to the 1899 Hague Convention for the Pacific Settlement of International Disputes, has invited the Honourable Andromache Karakatsanis, a puisne judge of the Supreme Court of Canada, to serve as one of Canada’s members of the Permanent Court of Arbitration;
Whereas the Honourable Andromache Karakatsanis was appointed to the Permanent Court of Arbitration on May 15, 2017 for a term of six years;
And whereas it is necessary that the Honourable Andromache Karakatsanis be authorized by the Governor in Council pursuant to section 56 of the Judges Act in order to act as arbitrator;
Therefore, His Excellency the Administrator of the Government of Canada in Council, on the recommendation of the Minister of Justice, pursuant to paragraph 56(1)(a) of the Judges Act, authorizes the Honourable Andromache Karakatsanis, a puisne judge of the Supreme Court of Canada, to act as an arbitrator on the Permanent Court of Arbitration until the end of her term on May 14, 2023.
Attendu que le ministre des Affaires étrangères, avec l’assentiment du ministre de la Justice et conformément à la Convention de 1899 de La Haye pour le règlement pacifique des conflits internationaux, a invité l’honorable Andromache Karakatsanis, juge puînée de la Cour suprême du Canada, à devenir l’un des membres représentant le Canada à la Cour permanente d’arbitrage;
Attendu que l’honorable Andromache Karakatsanis a été nommée à la Cour permanente d’arbitrage le 15 mai 2017 pour un terme de six ans;
Attendu que l’honorable Andromache Karakatsanis doit recevoir l’autorisation du gouverneur en conseil en vertu de l’article 56 de la Loi sur les juges pour pouvoir faire fonction d’arbitre,
À ces causes, sur recommandation du ministre de la Justice et en vertu de l’alinéa 56(1)a) de la Loi sur les juges, Son Excellence l’administrateur du gouvernement du Canada en conseil autorise l’honorable Andromache Karakatsanis, juge puînée de la Cour suprême du Canada, à faire fonction d’arbitre à la Cour permanente d’arbitrage jusqu’à la fin de son terme le 14 mai 2023.
