Whereas section 6 of the International Bridges and Tunnels Act provides that no person shall construct or alter an international bridge or tunnel without the approval of the Governor in Council;

Whereas the Peace Bridge is an international bridge that connects the City of Fort Erie, Ontario and the City of Buffalo, New York;

And whereas the Buffalo and Fort Erie Public Bridge Authority, pursuant to subsection 7(1) of the International Bridges and Tunnels Act, submitted an application to the Minister of Transport for approval of the proposed alteration of the Canadian Plaza at the Peace Bridge for the implementation of a temporary pre-inspection plaza, including the works set out in the attached schedule;

Therefore, His Excellency the Governor General in Council, on the recommendation of the Minister of Transport, pursuant to subsection 8(1) of the International Bridges and Tunnels Act, approves the proposed alteration of the Peace Bridge by the Buffalo and Fort Erie Public Bridge Authority in relation to the implementation of a temporary pre-inspection plaza, including the works set out in the attached schedule.

Attendu que l’article 6 de la Loi sur les ponts et les tunnels internationaux prévoit que nul ne peut, sans l’agrément du gouverneur en conseil, construire ou modifier un pont ou tunnel international;

Attendu que le pont Peace est un pont international qui relie la ville de Fort Erie (Ontario) à la ville de Buffalo (New York);

Attendu que la Buffalo and Fort Erie Public Bridge Authority, en vertu du paragraphe 7(1) de la Loi sur les ponts et les tunnels internationaux, a transmis au ministre des Transports une demande en vue d’obtenir l’agrément du projet de modification à l’esplanade canadienne du pont Peace en vue de la mise en place d’une aire temporaire d’inspection préalable, qui comprend notamment les travaux mentionnés à l’annexe ci-jointe,

À ces causes, sur recommandation de la ministre des Transports et en vertu du paragraphe 8(1) de la Loi sur les ponts et les tunnels internationaux, Son Excellence le Gouverneur général en conseil agrée le projet de modification du pont Peace par la Buffalo and Fort Erie Public Bridge Authority lié à la mise en place d’une aire temporaire d’inspection préalable, qui comprend notamment les travaux mentionnés à l’annexe ci-jointe.

SCHEDULE

Proposed implementation of a temporary pre-inspection plaza for the Peace Bridge international crossing with the following major components:

(a) implementation of two new inspection booths;

(b) modification of the travel lane for commercial vehicle access to the inspection booths;

(c) implementation of designated areas for Vehicle and Cargo Inspection System (VACIS) inspection;

(d) implementation of a temporary office trailer; and

(e) implementation of a temporary waiting shelter for drivers.

ANNEXE

La mise en place proposée d’une temporaire d’inspection préalable au passage international du pont Peace avec les composantes principales suivantes :

a) la mise en œuvre de deux nouvelles guérites d’inspection;

b) la modification de la voie de circulation pour assurer l’accès des véhicules commerciaux aux guérites d’inspection;

c) la mise en place d’aires désignées pour le système d’inspection des véhicules et du fret;

d) la mise en place d’une roulotte-bureau temporaire;

e) la mise en place d’un abri d’attente pour les conducteurs.
