Whereas the Honourable Lawrie J. Smith, a Justice of the Court of Queen’s Bench of Alberta, who has continued in judicial office for at least fifteen years, has tendered her resignation effective September 1, 2012, and as of this date her combined age and number of years in judicial office is not less than eighty;

Therefore, His Excellency the Governor General in Council, on the recommendation of the Minister of Justice,

(a) accepts the resignation of the Honourable Lawrie J. Smith; and

(b) pursuant to paragraph 42(1)(a) of the Judges Act, grants the Honourable Lawrie J. Smith an annuity of $192,066.66, commencing on September 1, 2012, and continuing during her life.

Attendu que l’honorable Lawrie J. Smith, juge de la Cour du Banc de la Reine de l’Alberta, après avoir exercé des fonctions judiciaires pendant au moins quinze ans, a donné sa démission, laquelle prend effet le 1^er septembre 2012, et que, à cette date, le chiffre obtenu par l’addition de son âge et du nombre d’années d’exercice est d’au moins quatre-vingts,

À ces causes, sur recommandation du ministre de la Justice, Son Excellence le Gouverneur général en conseil :

a) accepte la démission de l’honorable Lawrie J. Smith;

b) en vertu de l’alinéa 42(1)a) de la Loi sur les juges, accorde à l’honorable Lawrie J. Smith, à titre viager, une pension annuelle de 192 066,66 $, payable à compter du 1^er septembre 2012.
