Whereas the Honourable J. Edward Richard, a Judge of the Supreme Court of the Northwest Territories, who has continued in judicial office for at least fifteen years, has tendered his resignation effective May 1, 2012, and as of this date his combined age and number of years in judicial office is not less than eighty;

Therefore, His Excellency the Governor General in Council, on the recommendation of the Minister of Justice, hereby

(a) accepts the resignation of the Honourable J. Edward Richard; and

(b) pursuant to paragraph 42(1)(a) of the Judges Act, grants to the Honourable J. Edward Richard an annuity of $192,066.66 commencing on May 1, 2012, and continuing during his life.

Attendu que l’honorable J. Edward Richard, juge de la Cour suprême des Territoires du Nord-Ouest, après avoir exercé des fonctions judiciaires pendant au moins quinze ans, a donné sa démission, laquelle prend effet le 1^er mai 2012, et que, à cette date, le chiffre obtenu par l’addition de son âge et du nombre d’années d’exercice est d’au moins quatre-vingts,

À ces causes, sur recommandation du ministre de la Justice, Son Excellence le Gouverneur général en conseil :

a) accepte la démission de l’honorable J. Edward Richard;

b) en vertu de l’alinéa 42(1)a) de la Loi sur les juges, accorde à l’honorable J. Edward Richard, à titre viager, une pension annuelle de 192 066,66 $, payable à compter du 1^er mai 2012.
