                      Her Excellency the Governor General in Council, on the recommendation of the Minister of Canadian Heritage and the Treasury Board, pursuant to subsection 46(2) of the Broadcasting Act, hereby

(a) repeals Order in Council P.C. 1968-525 of March 19, 1968; and

(b) directs the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, when providing an international service under subsection 46(2) of the Broadcasting Act within the conditions of licences issued to it by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission and subject to any applicable regulations of that Commission,

(i) to name that service “Radio Canada International”,

(ii) to provide that service through shortwave, as well as through other means of distribution, as appropriate,

(iii) to produce and distribute programming targeted at international audiences to increase awareness of Canada, its values and its social, economic and cultural activities,

(iv) to establish geographic target areas and languages of broadcast in consultation with the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade,

(v) to establish objectives for that service on an annual basis, and

(vi) to report the results with respect to meeting those objectives in the annual report required under section 71 of the Broadcasting Act.

                      Sur recommandation de la ministre du Patrimoine canadien et du Conseil du Trésor et en vertu du paragraphe 46(2) de la Loi sur la radiodiffusion, Son Excellence la Gouverneure générale en conseil :

a) abroge le décret C.P. 1968-525 du 19 mars 1968;

b) donne à la Société Radio-Canada, à l’égard du service international qu’elle fournit en vertu du paragraphe 46(2) de cette loi dans le cadre des licences qui lui ont été attribuées par le Conseil de la radiodiffusion et des télécommunications canadiennes et sous réserve des règlements de celui-ci, les instructions suivantes :

(i) nommer ce service «  Radio Canada International »,

(ii) fournir ce service sur ondes courtes et, s’il y a lieu, par d’autres moyens de distribution,

(iii) produire et distribuer une programmation conçue pour des auditoires étrangers en vue de mieux faire connaître le Canada, ses valeurs et sa vie sociale, économique et culturelle,

(iv) déterminer les régions cibles et les langues de diffusion de ce service après consultation du ministère des Affaires étrangères et du Commerce international,

(v) élaborer, annuellement, les objectifs de ce service,

(vi) rendre compte, dans son rapport d’activité présenté en vertu de l’article 71 de la Loi sur la radiodiffusion, de la mesure dans laquelle ces objectifs ont été réalisés.
